Japanese auction sheet date converter
Convert Reiwa, Heisei and Showa stamps such as R5/2, H30/11 or 令和5年2月 to a Gregorian month. Calendar math only — not an import-eligibility tool.
Reiwa 5 / 2
February 2023
令和 year 5 starts in Gregorian 2019. This tool only converts the calendar stamp on the sheet (often 初度 first registration or 車検 shaken).
It does not decide whether a vehicle may be imported, registered, or inspected in your country.
Era cheat sheet
| Era | Sheet mark | Year 1 | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reiwa (令和) | R | 2019 | R5/2 → Feb 2023 |
| Heisei (平成) | H | 1989 | H5/2 → Feb 1993 |
| Showa (昭和) | S | 1926 | S5/2 → Feb 1930 |
Where these dates appear
Two fields on a typical sheet use era dates: 初度 (first registration) and 車検 / shaken (Japan roadworthiness expiry). A lone “S” in the grade box is an overall condition grade, not a Showa year.
What shaken is — and is not: shaken on an auction sheet. Definition of the document: what is a Japanese auction sheet. Auction name and lot sit next to the date — see the auction house glossary.
